  • “Welcome to Simply Sarah: Why I’m Starting This Blog at 47.

I am here because, I have experienced love, loss and restarting after loss. I want to tell my story to maybe help others with these chapters in life.

Let’s start with meeting the love of my life. His name is Mike. Mike was 27 year old divorcee with two children ages 1 1/2  and 3. I was a single mom of a 1 year old. We met because I was good friends with his sister. We started dating in September 2001. He swept me off my feet. I felt like our love is like what you see in movies. We knew immediately that we were going to be together forever. We were married 6 months later in March. We blended our family, added to or little family in May of 2003. Perfect little family of six. Life was busy all of the time, but we always were making memories.

We celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary in March  of 2014. These 12 years were the best of my life. I grew as a person. Mike completed me, every part of me. June of 2014 I was working nights at the local hospital lab, kids were enjoying their summer break. Then Mike wasn’t feeling well on Father’s Day. I thought he had a stomach bug. Monday took him to the ER, they ran a battery of tests, results migraine. Gave him the migraine cocktail, some fluids and sent us on our way. I slept that day because I had to work that night, worked my 10 hour shift, went home did the things that a wife does. Mike had called into work. He wanted to sleep, I told him I was going to lay on the couch so he could rest. I woke up later that afternoon and went to check on him. He was not responding to me, he had that absent look in his eyes. He kept patting my face telling me he loved me. I called an ambulance, went back to the ER room. He was sick, we didn’t know what was going on. After hours of running test, seizures from high blood pressure, they transferred him to the icu at a bigger hospital. By Wednesday the drs had told me he had no brain activity and it looked like he had an aneurysm at the base of his neck. I at the age of 34 had to make the decision to take my husband off of life support.

I hope that my story can help others out. With the next blog we will go into my life after losing my husband and now being a single mom of 4 and working.

    Until the next one, bye!
